I think what I see in windsurfing sails and BMWs..... recent purchases this year..... that they keep supply TIGHT so there is little overbuilt stuff people like me can wait around for the big discounts on before they make the next model.

Someone buying a new X3 off the floor really only had a choice of getting something ordered by mistake they sold so fast.... little to choose from. So they moved manufacturing to US and are set up to build to order so it took about 2 months for my order to hit the production line then get shipped. With Costco internet pricing, they can't load it up with adder fees so you know you get a fair (but not cheap or at cost) price...

Most will go for paying a fair price for a car if they don't have to haggle and the whole experience is reasonable, especially if you get any discount to MSRP for popular, made to order models.

Trouble is if you have a union shop, you have to keep building even if there are no orders then sell them at a paper loss just to generate cash flow, etc.... makes me wonder what they do in Europe when demand drops for cars there....
