They produce income for their members and access to capital for their portfolio companies. Those companies employ people across a multitude of industries and use the capital to expand their businesses and hire more employees.

Good question Shep. Financial Services are the only wealth producing venues in our unproductive society. How much longer do you think we can float on that wave? They have the politicians, including Obama, in their pocket...which is why we don't feel like we are part of what the government is doing and why we stand back and say it is a do nothing government, they are doing what they've been paid to do by the financial services lobbyists. The government is bought and paid for by the financial services industry. Hedge fund managers are in the business of engineering and administering those funds. I answered your question, which btw was a non-sequitor.
