[OFFICIAL] iPhone 4S Battery Standby Time Crashes By Whopping 100 Hours
[OFFICIAL] iPhone 4S Battery Standby Time Crashes By Whopping 100 Hours
Wednesday, 12 October 2011 10:00 Christopher Hudson

Apple announced the iPhone 4S just last week at a special media event at its Cupertino headquarters. As expected, the keynote boasted all the revolutionary new features the iPhone 4S was bringing to the table. However what Apple has left out was the toll the new features took on battery life, as is evident now on Apple's website.

iPhone 4S battery standby time drops 100 hours below iPhone 4 & 3GS According to the Apple website, the iPhone 4S battery standby time is now down to 200 hours, a full 100 hours below the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. Given that the iPhone 4S boast an improved battery what could be the issue? Geek.com points out that it likely has to do with Siri:

"Only Apple insiders likely know the factors that added up to this compromise, but I would guess that it is because of Siri. What else would be causing this? It isn’t likely that the A5 chip is to blame, as the iPad 2 didn’t see a hit in standby time. All of the other new software features in iOS 5 – including iCloud – would be affecting Apple’s current iPhone 4 standby times as well (it ships with iOS 5 preinstalled now too)."

We have mixed feelings about Siri right until today. While it is an awesome addition to the iPhone 4S, we get a feeling that its novelty effect will wear off quite quickly (imagine talking to your iPhone aloud in public).

Nevertheless, with just a couple more days to go before the iPhone 4S is officially available, we will soon find out.

iPhone4S returns accelerate with massive battery drain....

Here to voice my concerns as well. I've tried all the things that i shouldn't have to try, but to no avail. Both my wife's and mine are experiencing intense heat accompanied with rapid battery loss. The only thing so far that seems to have slowed down the drain is shutting off my two calendars (exchange and email). I seemed to get a normal battery then. Still testing to confirm.

I have been an owner of the iPhone since its inception, and I'm very disappointed with what's going on here. I refuse to have an apple store genius tell me to turn off some push notifications so my battery life increases. That is absurd. Hope to hear from apple. I will report back with findings after I run around with my calendars off for a while.

Listen guys, I'll wait few more days, if nothing happens I'll just return it. This is ridiculous.

My last phone was iphone 3G so you can imagine how happy I was to get myself a new iPhone after three years.

And now this. I'll just go online and buy unlocked iphone 4. And to be honest, this Siri is cool and has a big potential but it's more cool than useful at the moment. It will be good enough next year, just in time for iphone 5. Until then iphone 4 will do the work.

Sorry, I am little of the topic, but I just had to share my thoughts with someone. And just think about it, the official tech specs say that standby has dropped from 300 hours to 200. That's huge, that's a 1/3 of time. So, what's causing this, what has changed since iphone 4, what's unique for iphone 4S ? ..... I thinks it's all about A5 or Siri. One of those two things is messing with our battery.

Let's just hope will hear from Apple soon.
