The scramble in Europe is intended to avoid a technical credit event. Should that occur it is likely that a US bank with trillions in Europe oriented derivatives will fail (see below) leading to a quick rise in the $US index, a stock market debacle and a plunge in commodities, followed by the hum of printing presses and a resurgence of commodity prices across the board.
