iPhone 4S Struggles With Calls, Drains More Battery Than Watching Video

The iPhone 4S was announced just over a week ago and since then has garnered up rave reviews. However while its upgraded 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video recording and 800MHz dual-core processor are much welcomed, something has taken a toll on its battery life.

iPhone 4S struggles to make calls, 30% less talk time than Motorola DROID RAZR

Earlier this week we managed to get our hands on the iPhone 4S and started with our long term test write ups of the Apple phone. Now if you've been following our posts the past week, you would have seen how we've put the iPhone 4S through its hoops, testing everything from its call quality, video playback, camera and right up to Siri. While everything has been acceptable to date, we came across a strange anomaly that was later confirmed by Apple's own website.

The iPhone 4S appears to use a lot more power when making phone calls than usual. When it comes to smartphones, you will find that video playback time is normally shorter than talk time. For instance, the recently released Motorola DROID RAZR boasts 12.5 hours battery life for talk and 8.9 hours battery life when watching video. However in the case of the iPhone 4S you will find that it consumes more battery when making calls than watching video: 8 hours talk and 10 hours video (figures taken directly from Apple website).

The reason behind this is unknown but if we had to guess, it would have to be that that unique antenna design that Apple boasted which corrects the "antennagate" issues. With almost 30 percent less talk time than the Motorola DROID RAZR, we hope to conduct some tests later on this week to see if we can pinpoint exactly why the iPhone 4S battery suffers when making phone calls.

More on this shortly.
