OT: HDDs

>I don't replace my HDD when it fails. I replace it before that happens.

Fingers crossed, I have not have a HDD fail yet. In the last 20 years. :) About 1-2 computers at home + 1-2 at work.

I only disposed of HDDs due to outdated capacity. E.g. 10Gb drives or so.

I do backup (not frequently enough though ;)). That's the real risk control. Replacing HDD before it fails is not, since you don't know when it will fail and you don't know if the new one is a lemon. ;)

WDC/STX - I am afraid that the impact of the floods is not yet fully discounted by market. It seems that the market is cheering the STX results and not really paying attention to disruptions especially if they will last a year.

IMHO, WDC/STX are cheap'ish, but not super cheap compared to other techs that are also cheap'ish. I am not sure I'd prefer WDC/STX over MSFT/INTC/DELL, etc.

Disclosure: I have positions in MSFT, INTC, DELL. No positions in WDC/STX.
