High is very subjective. Margins are better during periods of prosperity and worse in situations like now.

Why wouldn't HDD get phased out? Hindsight is 20/20 however technology improves terribly fast over time and as long as SSD technology continues to get more popular and cheaper, there will be a point where HDDs are unneeded. After all, programming is trying to make file sizes smaller although some things are inevitably getting bigger. I believe we're going to hit a point where SSD will take over. The next hot thing in computing is mobile. A market traditional HDD companies are going to have a hard time competing.

Whether they'll be phased out in 10 years, 20 years or even 50 years we won't know but there is a definite death clock readily ticking.

Just my opinions, although i'm happy to invest in WDC if its cheaper :)
