<<<<<<? I wonder the possibility of any banks chomping at the bit to get their hands on the public's money, so that they can give out some more of these wonderful loans?

.....hashimoto said they would use public funds to bail out bad hokkaido bank--stock market surged and the japanese people screamed foul play.

.........hasimoto recanted his statement and people settled down. in fact japan has their own version of the resolution trust that will prop up this failing bank--kind of like deposit insurance.

........the real problem is that the japanese conusmer has no power and the officials run the country like a fiefdom.

.........all we can do is pray for deregulation and tax cuts to get this country back on its feet--with ASEAN, brazil, and korea on the skids the world could use another engine.

..........i think the japan will turn around but nothing significant will happen till next summer--it will take that long for them to get desperate and to see that the deregulation that has occurred (big bang) in the financial sector is successful. and, hashimoto will either become a convert to deregulation or he may be gone.
