"One of the few things Bush got right is the 'doing the jobs American's don't want to do' "
Well, I've gotta say I didn't want to start wars and break the world's economy, so I'm kinda glad he got it right.

I have picked fruit. I picked prunes in California. .22 a lug. Big boxes. Man, those were slave wages. We got up early and got on a bus which took us to the orchards and worked until sunset. They charged us for the bus ride to.

The farm worker really needs a union. What Ceaser Chavez fought for his whole life. People who work so hard need to make a decent living.

I do not like the stratification of society to that degree. I think we should have a horizontal society, not a vertical society, with each person having a role rather than a vertical society with levels of status. And people who work hard should be able to make decent wages.

The content of their character, not the level of status.

"They don't even realize Latino's from various backgrounds are much better workers and the ones who are fluent bilingual assimilated American's can get you some of the best workers of all skill levels at a very reasonable price. And boy do they work long and hard to get the job done."

I see this too. RRE construction here where I live, when it was still going, had been almost entirely taken over by Mexicans. The guy living next to me was a "fluent bilingual assimilated American" who had emigrated from Mexico years ago, and brought up others he knew from the village where he had been born, who were given a job and "shown the ropes" and educated about how to get by here by him.

These were jobs Americans WOULD do, if they needed a job badly enough, which wasn't the case at the time. But, why would you hire a bunch of lazy, whiny Americans when you could hire a crew of Mexicans that would be overjoyed to have such a (for them) great job, and would do great work with no whining whatsoever?

Then, there are jobs like picking fruit, that an American would only do if they were actually starving.
