Home should be treated as insurance...

Well.. there is something to be said for owning a home, over renting. Primarily when it involves raising a family where a bit of stability is important.

But as I said, we own homes because we'd rather have equity in it, rather than paying a landlord and never seeing a return on our money.

Bottom line, an empty house, not drawing rent, or in lieu of paying rent to someone else, is a money pit..
