<<I despise the modern day GOP as much as you do. Keep up the fight but do remember our great coastal gateway liberal cities of today in many ways are shells of their glory days of when you were a child growing up. So did liberalism of the late 1960's counterculture really work either? I sometimes long for living in the NYC of the 1950's myself but with modern day technologies and equal rights. Does such a place exist today?>>

I think the real problem you are seeing is simple overpopulation. We were not over populated in the 50's.

The 60's as I have often explained to people is really misunderstood. It was an inevitable manifestation of the human species intellectual evolution. It was the first worldwide existential movement in the history of mankind.

Before the 60's almost every person on earth lived according to the script given to them by their family and culture and they lived within themselves i.e. they did not form a personal philosophy and live outside themselves according to that philosophy.

The kids of the 60's said: "wait I have the right to manifest my destiny however I want as long as I do not hurt people and make my contribution to society; and so does everyone else". And everyone is to be treated equally and with respect regardless of race color creed or gender.

And then they took it a step further to studying the great philosophers to form a philosophy for themselves.

Yes, Juneau Alaska is like places in the 50's. Lots of good work, well functioning social systems and a pristine environment.
