>>etscape is there "to kick MS's butt."

This is boarding into stupidity.

Microsoft did not create a "similar product." Their browser is better and it wins not
because it is offered for free (the fact that it is offered for free goes to timing
only--several months earlier or later), but because IE-4 is superiour.

Stupidity. You see, the product is free, hence people will grab it, since it does the same that netscape browser does (this amazingly means: similar products)
You don't have to defend Microsoft. WHo says IE is better? Media hype that Microsoft mastered so perfectly?

If you allow yourself to see the evidense so clearly, then you'll have to allow yourself for us to believe otherwise. Fair? I have no conneciton with either, but think netscape's product superior. Fair?
Try not to increase your credibility by giving the impression of being neutral.

Microsoft developed a toy operating system for a toy computer based on an existing design which they borrowed lock, stock and barrel. They turned that into a useful business appliance which other companies started writing more and more useful software for. Microsoft had complete control of the OS and in Windows they finally decided to capitalize on that using the unlimited budget which their monopoly OS had afforded them. They never invented anything, they have never perfected anything, they simply own the OS than virtually all desktop software was written for. They own the OS which runs on the world's most flexible and lowest cost business appliance. They receive 50% of their revenue from Microsoft Office and they now see that this bloated beast is in danger of being swallowed by thinner, more effective, easier to use, modern, maintainable office products from 500,000 to 700,000 software developers. It takes at least a year to create a meaningful office product, even using modern languages, and you are going to see a tidal wave of software for thin clients in the coming months. Microsoft's monopoly is not going to save them from their obvious lack of vision and talent and innovation this time.

Lewis,

Take off you redmond colored glasses, they cheat, copy & cheat some more to win. They didn't see the train coming & got hit with a ton of lead over their uncreative little pin heads...I know, I was there at the 94' Comdex & InterOp. Our competition at that time was SpyGlass & a few other start-ups. We had about 150 employees at that time.

Microsoft was busy trying to copy AOL with MSN which was originally designed as a proprietary interface application to their new network.
Ever heard of Blackbird???? They realized that they were in trouble way too late, canned the whole project & left literally thousands of developers holding the bag.

Here is a URL for your viewing pleasure:

I bet after reading that, you must think that they did the right thing by leveraging Windoz to try & squash us......

I hope they break that monster into a 100 smaller companies.

Rod

The views stated above are mine, not my employers.
