Option 3 is actually what I proposed in response to reading that CT was going to follow, like lemmings, all the other states that chose option #2 without researching it. I've gotten no feedback so wanted to see if I was all alone on this idea, which seems like a no-brainer. Here's a sampling of coaches who hate the running clock:

“Every play in the football season is sacred,” Ollikainen went on to say. ”I don’t like any rule that limits the number of plays our athletes’ get to play. In fact, I’d even like to see high school go to fifteen minute quarters… Hurrying the game up does not do anything to save our self esteem. The kids know when they are losing. At some point we need to forget the scoreboard and just focus on getting better.”

“It doesn’t let coaches manage the game and get playing time for players that otherwise wouldn’t get varsity experience,” said Hyde.

Dave Miller agrees that losing playing time is very detrimental to both younger players and to the starters who won’t be able to sit in the post season. “My feeling is that kids only get to play high school football once and when you run the clock you take away valuable time they can never get back,” he said.

In a basketball game like that option 3 is the right thing to do.

He should have put bench warmers (which I was in hoops) like me LOL in long before it ever got to that point. Believe me when i say a couple guys like me would have made it a close game.

Classic story - Our B-ball coach was one of our gym teachers. During gym I made a nice steal only to lumber down court and miss the layup. So coach yells down to me and says "Hey gloop - are you trying out for basketball this year." I responded by saying "I was thinking about skipping it this year."

His reply "GOOD!"

Roflmao - he laughed so hard after making that remark that I couldn't help but laugh with him - he though he was a regular Don Rickles

"A coach in my town was winning 67-5 in a 13-14 year olds basketball game with 5 minutes to go and had his starters in the game running a full court press against the opponent. I almost decked him myself."

was that you ?
