just attended parents day at daughter's school yesterday afternoon

we were told by teachers that
(i) daughter, at just 7, is reading english and chinese at 9-10 years levels
(ii) erita gets top marks on extra difficult math problems in both languages when only 3 other students out of 120+ get correct, but is sloppy on extra easy problems due to boredom
(iii) writes well in both languages, can start to do simple essays
(iv) chinese handwriting seriously good (calligraphy training helped)
(v) teachers shall do pull-out on english / chinese writing, and math
(vi) science teacher, "what can i say, your daughter is perfect, and she also helps other students"

teachers showed us examples of various bits of erita's in-classroom work and those of her fellow and fellowette students, and we said "whoa", because there is nothing else to say.

i must scan some of erita's art work to bore you ;0)

Nicely put... Similar up here... but also at times depends on neighbourhood.. not all schools created equally... better schools attract better teachers also.. we also have a lot of French immersion schools and now they are starting to introduce Mandarin programs..
