permian age: About 290 million years ago. One of the theories is that intense volcanic activity spewed out massive amonts of CO2. This raised the temperature about 5 degrees f. That was just enough to melt the methane hydrates and this raised the temperature another 5 degrees. 95% of all life on earth became extinct. Another theory is the acidification of the oceans which are becoming more acidic now. In any event we are boiling the planet. From my son in law who studies global warming. This is cool.
