i naturally, being from freedom hong kong, hold true market principles, everything else being equal.

Apparently your sense of freedom involves the exploitation and desolation of natural resources to satisfy your own gluttony and excess, the consequences be damned.

All good things in moderation.

There is another argument people are overlooking here besides the horrible cruelty disguised as culture and tradition. It is a certainty that the politicians who don't want the ban are ignoring the wishes of the majority of people in our society. Councillor Chak Au and a few shortsighted leaders are Damaging Race Relations in this country

Fully 99% of the 50% of Richmond's population that is white or other non Asian supports a ban on the sale of shark fin products in stores and restaurants. At least 75% or more of the Asian population also supports a ban. Who is Councillor Au listening to? This is not only corruption on his part by ignoring the wishes of the majority of citizens here but he is neglecting a very important principle in life namely that while all things might be legal they are not necessarily advantageous. The shark fin barbarians don't care about how this issue is embittering people who are offended by the shark slaughter but they also don't seem to care that there is a growing backlash against Chinese in particular in our community over this issue. I live in Steveston and I can tell you that people here are fed up with foreigners coming here advocating actively or passively the destruction of the planets wildlife, including Canada's, while claiming that it is tradition or for medical reasons. I have a message for the citizens of Richmond and the rest of Canada. This is not a minor issue, in fact in the USA it is up there close behind the Presidential elections in controversy. Citizens here need to get off their butts and get active in protesting the shark slaughter before they are all gone in 3 years resulting in the planet not being able to sustain human life. City council delaying action for even 3 months is not acceptable. The time has come.
