next topic could be froi gras or caviar, more likely, than snails or squid, also good stuff

All of which, except maybe Squid, can be farm raised, providing an adequate supply to meed demand.

I'm perfectly fine with that scenario.

And squid, which have very accelerated metabolisms (and short life spans) seem less inclined to face immediate extinction.

Sharks, on the other hand, take a long time to reach reproductive maturity. Kill the big ones and you're limiting their ability to reproduce.

In fact, there are new theories about how to protect a species from over-harvesting. Force people to throw back the bigger specimens, since they have already excelled at survival. Let them keep the small fry.

Fois gras is actually banned in a lot of places. I have eaten fois gras a few times. It really is delicious. I only tried it once the controversy began, and some producers started selling cruelty free fois gras. It is said that the geese hurry to be fed, and gobble the feed. I still feel guilty.

Veal is also something I never ate until the controversy started producers selling cruelty free veal. Roseda is a local brand. I have eaten Roseda cruelty free veal. It is delicious. I still feel guilty.

Shark's fin, I have heard, is not all that delicious in taste but the texture is something that Chinese like, along with other strange flavorless but very textural delicacies like sea cucumber. But most of all, I have heard, they are traditional folk medicine alleged to make men more sexually potent. The shape is suggestive. Perhaps Viagra will save the sharks.
