Creative Brushes Off Aztech Suit - Paper

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Multimedia company Creative Technology Ltd dismissed its competitor Aztech Systems' complaint of patent infringement, Singapore's Business Times (BT) newspaper said today. The paper spoke to Creative officials who were attending a computer show in Las Vegas and said the company would defend itself against the suit.
Aztech on Monday said it had filed a complaint in a U.S. court against Creative for infringing a patent that covered a method and apparatus for digitally mixing audio signals with different sampling rates to produce a combined output signal. Aztech's patent was granted in July in the U.S. The infringement was through Creative's manufacture, sale, offer for sale and use of its
Sound Blaster AWE64 family of sound card products, Aztech said. Creative said it had not yet been served with a writ, according to BT. Creative was "very certain" that other companies, including itself, had been shipping products with the Aztech technology even before the patent was filed in February 1995, Hock Leow, Creative's multimedia vice president, said.
