Larry,

Multicast IP has been around for a while. It has been in wide
usage, mostly by datacommunications companies that make routers
and smart hubs. Some of those companies even use multicast IP
on PC's.

No, I believe TIBCO (formerly Technekron Software Systems) had a product that used Multicast IP way before MSFT.
