Jobs don't exist like they did back then for kids. Newspaper routes, lawn mowing, snow shoveling and so on.

'A lot of our problem is the anti intellectual bullshit of too many people' From the right wing anti intellectual BS to the press two for English to the 'acting white' if you actually try to empower yourself by reading a book no wonder why there are problems. Funny that isn't usually much of a problem with Jewish, Indian or Asian kids. It is a can do spirit I also notice with a higher disproportionate percentage of Caribbean born blacks in FL who should probably have every barrier possible holding them back well beyond any dark skinned kid born in the states. I will say Italian kids too have really come along way from their stereotypes of the gangsters, mafiosa and even Saturday Night Fever when I was just a teen empowering ourselves the same way Asian kids and Jewish kids who also had many hurdles in some ways much greater coming out of post WW II to succeed in this country.
