Pat: Let me start by saying I wish you and a few others on the AMTX thread would purchase a few share of Westell. This is my view of the AMTX/TI/WSTL deal. Westell will take over the entire AMTX product line, ADSL and non-ADSL systems. Westell has been paid 14.8M to take the Amati product line and customer base, not a bad deal for Westell. Now the good part for AMTX share holders... you can get ~1.1 shares of Westell for every share of Amati up from 0.9, again not a bad deal.

As for securing an IP future, IP is layer 3 of the OSI model and Amati's R&D community is layer 1, the transceiver level. The Datalink and Networking layers, TI doesn't get with the AMTX purchase. Westell will acquire talent in these areas, if they don't have it presently. The idea behind a DSP is a "System on a Chip", not just layer 1, but 2 and 3. Look for the partnership between T1 and Westell to be more than T1 helping Westell in the "System on a Chip" solution.

Now on the CSCO, COMS, and ASND threat. I've been saying this for well over a year now. Westell not owning the patents doesn't change the threat from these data players. Westell with it's partners will compete against these players.

Best of luck... until later.
