Was 70 mph speeding? Anyway, it was fun and the worst that could happen was to slide off into the snow on the side of the road and have to hike for help in a snowstorm or hope for help. Not much traffic so best not to take the chance so not 80 mph. It would take a kilometre to stop so it was only when there was no traffic but there were a few cars off on the side.

With good snow tyres and practice at skidding around it was easy enough.

I was very cautious about any back roads in bleak conditions as there were no cellphones, no Globalstar, no SPOT, maybe no help and no way to walk somewhere lost in a snowstorm in -20 degrees [which tended not to be snowstorms which happened in warmer -8 deg C].

When 2020 comes and Ottawa is permanently snowbound, life will rapidly change. At least there won't be any black flies or mosquitoes. Canadians will have to beg to be let into USA or Mexico. Better apply for amalgamation now by saying "You can have Athabasca and free pipeline routes across Canada" BEFORE the USA realizes that the big freeze is coming and they'll have you over a barrel [so to speak].
