Yeah, that's a good point. The social safety net has kept some people's heads just slightly above water. And that is a good and moral thing. But the way the gov't reports on it all is intentionally hiding the severity of the problem. I'm a big believer on putting the real numbers on the table and then we all can make decisions with our eyes wide open. For example, if we measured unemployment the way we did during the Great Depression, then it would be running at something closer to 20% versus the 9% they are reporting now. shadowstats.com
