mm, why aren't you speaking out against Defence spending? Isn't that the biggest unnecessary drain? Isn't that the main reason the Communists in Russia collapsed? Would you want to post the increase in Defence spending alongside the numbers you posted. I applaud you for posting the numbers. It is educational at least for me. But then after seeing them, I pondered about the 80/20 rule wherein you look at the biggest chunk in our spending and cut a percentage from that part of the pie and that will cause a dramatic shift in the figures.

By the way you have really sparked this thread with your posts and that is great. BUt also help me and probably others on this thread by making it "fair and balanced" but not the FOX News way.

<<None of this is a joke. What I like about numbers is that they help us live in reality instead of in fantasy land.

Numbers can be misleading.

We are a very rich country with only 300 million people. 14 trillion. The wealth of this nation could be measured in quadrillions. We are the bread basket of the world. We should have no trouble affording all citizens a good healthy life with proper social management and a tax structure that affords a large middle class like in the 50's.

We need to revive the unions and get unions for farm workers. And the idea we need to sacrifice the old to do it is crazy talk. We have the most resoruces of any coutnry on earth an the best climate and soil for growing food and we have water and fertilizer.

And the young are supposed to take care of the old. That is how it works!

What is distressing to me is your willingness to throw the old folks to the dogs out of some sort of hysterical apocolyptic vision. During WWII everyone had victory gardens and we rationed gas and we were fine. There is plenty for everyone to have a very good life in this country.

We don't need tons of very rich people. We need tons of healthy middle class people and to take care of our old, young and disabled. Or we are no bettter than animals.
