Yes the image is stored on SI's server. That is a drawback, a small one, as you can not delete the image, only an admin can (delete the entire post).

With screencast, inserting images on SI from there, you can always log onto screencast and delete the image yourself.

I don't store any images on SI's severs myself, I like to have access to them. I just use SI's image tool to insert the image I want.
