there isn't much beef here

I am starting to see something similar in the numbers I follow.

Market drop early this week looks ugly - not because it was so steep, but because folks felt so lucky to have a buying opportunity.

I am selling rallies.

>>>there isn't much beef here, just a lot of flash and hot air rushing around from the HFT crowd.

<<< Hello Dale Baker, HFT accounted for 56 percent of U.S. equity volume last year, according to TABB Group.

reuters.com

Dark Pool trading, (trying to avoid HFT systems) in the U.S., dark pools see about 14 percent of average daily volume + growing quickly.

tradersmagazine.com

Anyone have an opinion on where HFT/Dark Pool trading is going in the U.S.? More regulation? Will the Volcker Rule have any effect? Is this system more efficient for markets? How do HFT/Dark Pool platforms effect ETF trading (a third of daily U.S. trading volumes).

Canada looks like it is going to push for more regulation.

theglobeandmail.com

How much transparency do markets really have anymore? Anyone know when Dark Pool trades are reported, after hours, during trading hours, before open? How about tracking this stuff, are daily HFT/Dark Pool volumes reported after hours on a daily basis by the markets? I feel like I'm flying in bad weather without flight instrumentation!

Last but not least, if HFT/Dark Pool trading is the wave of the future (where we are heading), is there a way to invest in it, or take advantage of it? Algorithmic Trading / Proprietary Trading Firms?
How about firms that produce the software/hardware for the trading platforms....any company names that stand out in these areas?

Can value investors survive / thrive / take advantage of this mess?

All opinions welcome, thanks for any help in this area of investing! Gambling???
