t,

I think you are partially correct about Rendell. First, I think Rendell is a rational Democrat. By rational I mean he accepts 2 + 2 = 4, even if he does not like it. The non rational ones simply deny 2 + 2 = 4. The key thing with Rendell is that by the time fracking became a loony left cause celeb it had already contributed significantly to economic activity in Pa. It would have been hard for him to shut down something that was doing good things in his state - ie 2 + 2 = 4 even if he did not like it.

However, while Rendell could not go fully loony - he reached out to the loons with a compromise. He banned fracking on public lands.

So - while he did not like the fact that 2 + 2 = 4 he found a compromise. He avoided the sin of fracking on public lands while avoiding laying off the thousands who had become employed in his state by the evils of this new technology.

The key question in evaluating Rendell is - what would he have done if the cat (economic success) had not been let out of the bag.

Mario Cuomo is trying hard to find a way to admit that 2 + 2 = 4 while still trying to be a leader of the loyal loon party. I suspect Coumo knows how to add - but he knows the math skills of his electoral base.

Fortunately here in Ohio the loons are out of power. They have not yet resorted to the courts or the referendum process to SCARE the populace that fracking would end the world - how - oh - by bringing jobs to a depressed area of Ohio - the exact area of the Utica. Truly, the Utica is in what could be called the Appalachian part of Ohio. Anything that brings economic activity to that part of our state is wonderful. I think West Virginia feels the same way. If you remember Joe Manchin was elected to senate partially by a TV add where he literally shot the cap and trade law. Damn - Joe may actually care about the improvement of the economic status of the population of W Va.

If it was not real it would all be hilarious.
