Cathay is not a chinese carrier it is an international carrier based on HK (controlled by the Swire Pacific conglomerate) with a high market share in many Asian routes. They are one of the highest rated international carriers. I read this article too and I think that Cathay Pacific is probably one of the best bets in the Airline sector right now.

Panamanian airline company Copa Holdings (CPA) was recommended on Bloomberg by an airline analyst I like.

Apparently Panama provides a good hub location for travel between North,Central, and South America.
Fwiw: copaair.com

Company has shown earnings in each of past ten years and has a relatively low p/e and relatively high roe. (Perhaps though, looking at airline book value and roe based on that, is not a good way to value airline stocks)

I got a fill for a few shares this morning.
