I doubt they had a shot either during the Gilded Age or anytime since buying those luxurious craftsman type estates homes on large acreage in Newport. That is far different than buying a 1200 foot 1950's shack on a 60 front foot lot intown for $500k that was originally built for WWII vets on the GI bill..
