Meta,
I doubt seriously, short of catastrophic war. that any US president can prevent the ascendancy of emerging markets' nations.. The world is changing and US place will be different.. issue for US leadership is whether the US will continue to have a place at the head table... US still has all the requirements to keep that seat.. but the success of the US government (and more importantly presidency which takes the heat) IMO can be measured by the force of Tea Party and OWS... Instead of Tea Party waning.. the US government now faces a two pronged attack.. Watch out if the TP and OWS read Sun Tzu...

You are of course joking re Obama who is clearly and without a doubt a cretin of the first order

Of all the possibilities however remote, I approve of Ron Paul, but he has no chance to win, and so my gold position is safe.

A charismatic leader who could actually focus the historic abilities and energy of the American people

the hell does that mean? what have the abilities and energy of the american people people ever been focused on? this is a speechwriter statement to sell a story, not a real thing. there is no "american people", just a bunch of people who happen to live in the same big place that was stolen recently enough from the indigenous that you got to experience some "kick ass country" things in your lifetime

Hey, steady on. Americans are okay. It's not that they are all unsophisticated hicks. We aren't biased against Americans. We firmly believe they should be treated as human. Heck, some of my best friends are Americans. Some are amazing. <You are particularly critical in your perception of Americans, in general, as being unsophisticated hicks. > But then there are the likes of our Sea Otter = ignorant cultists who follow David Koresh, Jim Jones, Charlie Manson, The Weathermen, Barack Obama, Al Gore and Global Alarmism.
