(NEWSER) – Yet another woman—this would be the fourth so far—is coming forward to accuse Herman Cain of sexual harassment, and she’s hired high-profile lawyer Gloria Allred to help her do it. The new accuser will appear with Allred at a press conference this afternoon, Radar Online reports. This woman, who will be the first to go public, says Cain harassed her when she went to him for help with an employment issue at the National Restaurant Association.

For the uninitiated, Allred is fairly famous, USA Today notes, citing a New York Times article that described her as, “a feminist avenging crusader or a deluxe ambulance chaser catching a ride on the latest tabloid scandal.” (Click here for more on Allred and her mind-boggling list of clientele, or here for more on Cain's woes.)

Preacher's Spanking Book Linked to 3 Child Deaths

TENN. MINISTER MICHAEL PEARL URGES USING A SWITCH ON BABIES

(NEWSER) – The deaths of three children have been linked to parents who reportedly own a popular but controversial spanking book by a Tennessee preacher. The book, To Train Up a Child, by Michael Pearl of the No Greater Joy Ministry, promotes using a switch on babies as young as 6 months and plumbing tubing on older children to keep them in line—much like "stubborn mules" are disciplined. Some 700,000 parents, many of them home-schoolers, have purchased the self-published tome, including parents who are either currently serving prison time or have been charged in the abuse and beating deaths of three young children in the last 5 years, reports the New York Times. Pearl says it's unfair to blame his book for the actions of unstable parents, but physicians and law enforcement authorities have expressed concerns about the book's role in child abuse.

“My fear is that this book, while perhaps well intended, could easily be misinterpreted and could lead to what I consider significant abuse," a pediatrician who examined one of the dead children told the Times. The book threatens to escalate violence against children because it advises that “if you don’t get results, the only thing to do is to punish harder and harder," says a woman who runs a Christian-based blog opposed to corporal punishment. Parents worried about the book have organized to pressure outlets like Amazon.com to stop selling it. One of the Pearls' five children, now 28, recalls having a "wonderful" childhood, even though her dad says she was spanked some 50 times as a toddler. Click for more from the Times' piece.

Oh this is too good, "the more the better"...Cain is going to do the mosh bit next and then Alan Keyes is going join in the fun.

Yup, your "base" will be "solid" and the team of Gingrich/Cain...Cain/Gingrich will out there and Americans won't be able to stop laughing.

Yup Texas is an Obama potential, now even Utah...

Record number of Americans in poverty as wealth gap between young and old increases

Monday, November 7, 2011

The alarming number of Americans living in poverty continues to rise.

According to new figures released by U.S. Census Bureau, 49.1 million — or 16 percent — of Americans are now living below the poverty line. The numbers are an increase from 2010, when the previous record was at 46.2 million (16 percent). Americans 65 or older had the biggest jump in poverty, hitting 15.9 percent from the previous total of 9 percent.

The poverty rate isn’t the only economic figure setting an unwanted record, as the wealth gap between old and young Americans has also reached its widest ever. A typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than the average household headed by someone under 35, according to the Pew Research Center.

Those figures also include 37 percent of younger households with a net worth of zero or less, a demographic that has doubled since 1984.
