If someone like Lucent was going to buy 10% of Ascend,
How may 25K blocks would that be? About 75 right?
And if they were to buy more than 10% by say the first of the year,
they would have to make and announcement or file something right?

Jeff,

1. The last 10Q filed on November 14 reports 200MM shares outstanding (actually, 199.838MM to be precise). (Incidentally, Maverick's guesstimate of a buyout price of 48/share back in October was based on 200MM shares.)

2. 200MM divided by 25K would be 80.

3. Upon obtaining a 10% stake or more, a party must file a 13D.

I was thinking about this strategy a while back, that LU could buy a 10% stake with their cash hoard right now, and stock-swap the rest next October. Of course, I haven't heard of this being done before. I have no idea if an ASND buyout is realistic, but I can't imagine LU buying CSCO or COMS.
