Here's another potential barrier to internet commerce. And it's news to me.

From a WSJ editorial page piece attacking Microsoft:

This newspaper reported a few months ago that Microsoft acknowledges it plans to charge a "vig"--slang for a bookmaker's cut--on every transaction over the Internet that uses Microsoft's technology.

About the author:

Mr. Rill was assistant attorney general in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice from 1989 to 1992. He is now a lawyer in Washington who represents software companies that compete with Microsoft.
