"FWIW, the negative yield trap applies to all consumed commodities except gold."

Bingo!

A truly concise and sage sentence. A marvel, chock full of investment implications.

Only thing I'd change is to delete 'consumed.' Minor thing.

I only own producers of commodities, or producers of equipment associated with commodities.

In the last couple of days I have taken a big position in TNP, Tsakos Energy Navigation.

Headquartered in Bermuda, with offices in Athens, it has a fleet of over 50 new double-hulled tankers. Pays a dividend of almost 10% at yesterday's stock price and sells at a 70% discount from book value. And the book value is real, real ships.

The stock has been knocked way down partly because it is a Greek company. But it does business outside Greece using U. S. dollars.
