Since when wealth gap is a problem? Equality is possible only in fat cows' years. In slim cows' years, unequality is a fact of life.

You see, in fat cows' years, the surplus of the more productive is divided with the less able and there is an equalization effect.

As the cows get slim, there is less and less to re-distribute. There is less subsidies to go to unproductive sectors and less pseudo-jobs to employ people for not needed functions.

If Eastern Germany was there today, Germany could not buy it out and it did 1990. Then Germany had a surplus and could tax the western bit to buy out the Eastern one. Germany was already doing that equalization with its 'finanzausgleich' whereby it subsidized the weaker lander.
