Steve and all,

FWIW, Dain Bosworth just downgraded WSTL on concerns about the breakup w/ AMTX

From Cowen:

Key Points:

1) WSTL loses Amati to TI
2) TI acquisition is an endorsement of xDSL potential
3) But we view loss of DMT inellectual property as a negative for WSTL
4) We also remained concerned about timing of market and margin pressures

(No earnings revisions with losses expected through to 99.)

excerpt:
"...WSTL believes it can still achieve these goals by virtue of its newly formed alliance with TI to develop DSP-based solutions. We, however, remained concerned on the timing and proprietary nature of the TI alliance, and that WSTL still faces tough price competition from the likes of Alcatel and US Robotics. With the stock jumping today due to arbitrage-related activity, we are taking the opportunity to downgrade WSTL to neutral..."

I'm quite confused! Yes, the AMTX loss is definitely an issue. But hey still have 2-3 BIG customers who like theim - Bell Atlantic, GTE and isn't there 1 in Canada? A buddy of mine in GTE, who has been working on the project, informs me that WSTL is the only one they've been using in their trials, and naturally that has materailized in the recently announced deal. Unless GTE is getting into this business in a small way (which is not very GTE), I can't see why it's small bones! It should be a big deal. Alls WSTL needs, given it's current size, is one of these 3 big ones to take an extra liking to them. Look at Boston Tech - got their start with Bell Atlantic. look where they got to!
