Government at all levels spent an average of $149,000 on the 13-year education of a high school senior who graduated in 2009, compared to $50,000 (in 2009 dollars) for a 1970 graduate.
Despite the dramatic increase in spending, there has been no notable change in student outcomes.

My town didn't have a high school. We were bussed across the river to an adjoining NJ town. That town was notorious for not approving a single school budget in the decade of the 60s. Finally, the state acted by condemning my high school after my freshman year ......forcing the town to build a new one. I was one of those 1970 graduates....... I'll bet I got a better education than most do today..........and it had little to nothing to do with money spent..
