Interest rates, gas hikes, recession, job loss, surging gold prices, a failed war, an impeached Pres, hostage crisis, a cold war, an unhappy electorate and NO American Pride - That's how I remember the late 70's and early 80's. What I don't recall was: A sense of possible institutional insolvency - Banks are getting damn near free money handed to them so they can turn around and buy short duration treasuries and skim the spread - risk free. Feel free to correct my vernacular but the bottom line is they're getting this deal because their books are toast and many would probably be considered insolvent by any other measurement in a different time period. I could go on and on and in fairness some of the above remark is opinion based on things I've read that may or may not be 100% accurate. I also don't recall foreclosure rates being this high. <<Human experience is one based on psychology, out own, our families, our communities, our places of worship, and Time is a very important element in creating psychology and especially Mass Psychology that governs markets, public opinion, etc.>> I totally agree. I'm 45 today so my perspective is completely different than it was from 78-84. Clearly I wasn't reading the WSJ at that time but I had a better than average grip on what was happening for my age and that was because of my father - he was a great guy - lousy fisherman....but a great guy. lol <<But that's why the future rhymes instead of repeats outright>> Spot on. I've always said that Things ARE ALWAYS different but only by minor degrees. I've had about 12 hours sleep in 3 days so this isn't exactly a high quality post (as if any of mine are lol) but my perception of then and now is wildly different in a couple of critical ways. Maybe it's just my psychology......I'll check with my shrink and get back to ya LOL
