11Luck, lore and random facts

THE DATE 11/11/11 is a numerical palindrome, meaning it reads the same forward and backward. What's more, it's something math nerds call a repunit — for repeated unit — made up only of 1s.

Here are other assorted facts involving the number 11:

World War I ended in 1918, on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour.

A total solar eclipse was observed throughout Europe on Aug. 11, 1999, at 11:11 a.m.

In astrology, the 11th house is the segment that rules one's friendship, hopes, social relations and desires.

Other notable 11's: A football team has 11 players; the largest cat in the world is a Siberian tiger, which measures 11 feet in length, and the most Oscars any movie has earned is 11 — a feat achieved by "Titanic," "Ben-Hur" and "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King."

Palindrome dates: Including 11/11/11, November has — surprise! — 11 palindromic dates. The others are: 11/1/11 (the only other repunit); 11/2/11; 11/3/11; 11/4/11; 11/5/11; 11/6/11; 11/7/11; 11/8/11; 11/9/11 and 11/22/11.

Here's to 3-3-2033!! My son and I are playing with questions for a Conversation Party for family and friends....You have just mentioned a great question.....

What were you doing in the month of each of these dates:

4-4-44, but I was only 1-1/2 years old and don't remember it. The second time was 5-5-55, which was about 6 months after my family got its first TV. The local news anchor announced we wouldn't have another such date until 6-6-66, which seemed like a long time away at the time.
But it came around, as did 7-7-77,
8-8-88,
9-9-99,
10-10-10 and now
11-11-11. If I live as long as my dad, I'll see
12-12-12,
2-2-22 and
3-3-33.

Here's some of my suggestions: Everyone can draw a different question, but I think it would be more fun to have everyone answer the same question, and then go on to the next question.... Any other additions would be great!

A few questions I might put in the pile if I were making the game:

-- Tell me about a day when you were going to 2nd grade in the spring... How did it smell?
(Note your mind, NO Matter your age, floats back to that time, and gives you a day to remember....as well as how it smelled (I thought of a day, where it was, what the day might have been like, and it smelled like newly mown grass....I was in a seminar with men and women, all ages, this was asked, and it was astounding the replies! Also note with questions below, we were all at a certain age along the way, thus we get really good replies with this because the times are obviously different.)

-- (this is 3 or 4 different cards)
Tell me 3 things you might have done as a Service for your Community when you were between :
a) age 10-14
b) age 15-20
c) age 20-forward

--Tell me what the weather would feel like on a day you are pursuing your favorite outdoor activity which is ......?

-- Tell me your most creative thing you've done in the kitchen.

--Tell me about the worst disaster you've ever had in the kitchen

---When you were 10, what was your most favorite fashion accessory?

--What are your 3 most favorite colors, and how do you use them?

--Tell me what your most favorite movie was when you were 8, and now what is it as an adult?

-- Where were you and how old were you when you saw your most favorite movie?

-- If someone wrote a story of your life, what would you want the title to be, and why?

--If you could pick a book, and make a movie of it, what would it be, and why?

--What is the most favorite gift you've ever received that someone made or did for you?

--Tell me of a gift that one or both parents gave to you that was a "gift from the heart" not the pocket book....

--If your life so far was a song, what would the title be?

--Tell me about a summer day when you were 10, where you might have been, and what outdoor game you might be playing?

--What is the craziest thing you have done so far, and what is the craziest thing you still would like to do and why?

--For each Decade of your life, tell me one day or event that made you especially happy.....

--Tell me two times when you have conquered fear and how you did it?

And of course, feel free to add your own....make them ones that one can't answer in just a word or two...
