If you were not a Child of Israel, then you were designated as a slave as per LORD God in Genesis 19:12. Exodus 21 lays out the laws on how to treat their slaves by LORD God. All law is based upon the premise of ownership. LORD God claims ownership and thus his law stands. God does not claim ownership, but grants us all dominion, which means to rule, thus man is not under any other mans law. When you use law to defend yourself you are putting yourself under the authority of LORD God. When you act as a man created as male or female by God, your rule stands.
