Here is our company position. We issued our statement of support for Occupy Wall St. because it is consistent with our Mission Statement and our values. The statement was drafted by our CEO and our independent Board of Directors. The Board is directly responsible for our social mission, product quality and brand equity. We believe that people can change America, and that caring capitalism can make a difference. We’re showing our appreciation for those who are taking part in this non-violent, peaceful and democratic movement by coordinating ice cream through the Food Committee on site where they’ll distribute. We continue to discuss with other organizations and partners to explore where we can be most supportive. - Sean Greenwood Director PR/Ben & Jerry’s ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I sent the following in response… Sean, Thanks for the statement. I’m republishing it in full. Has Ben and Jerry’s considered sending ice cream to morgues, hospital emergency rooms or rape crisis centers? That’s where a growing list of Occupy supporters seem to be ending up, along with a growing list of journalists and regular citizens who have crossed the path of Occupy protesters. I’m sure they’d all enjoy some yummy Cherry Garcia. There’s nothing that works up a protester’s appetite quite like taunting the police, throwing Molotov cocktails or setting fire to banks . Even though the weather is getting chilly, I’m sure some of your delicious flavors like Red Velvet Cake would hit the spot and provide an extra energy boost for the people who are working so hard to destroy the economic system that’s made entrepreneurial companies like Ben and Jerry’s possible.
