Obama warns Congress he'll block attempt to avoid debt deal triggers By Erik Wasson President Obama has warned leaders of the supercommittee he will not accept any effort to turn off a mechanism enforcing spending cuts if the panel fails to reach a deal to reduce the deficit. In a Friday phone call to the co-chairmen of the 12-member panel, Obama told Congress it “must not shirk its responsibilities,” according to a White House readout of the conversation. “The sequester was agreed to by both parties to ensure there was a meaningful enforcement mechanism to force a result form the committee,” the readout from the White House said. “The American people deserve to have their leaders come together and make the tough choices necessary to live within our means, just as American families do every day in these tough economic times.” read more.................. thehill.com
