Very interesting post -- my question to you re early mid 98: Assuming (which I do) that everything you said is true -- SEG will continue to struggle, may restructure, and has down quarters ahead for 6-9 months -- When do you think the market will begin valuing based on FY 99 #s and future prospects rather than taking a PE view.

As with semi-equip, and chip co's at some point, the market begins ignoring current performance -- if it believes a company is *still* the market leader and has the wherwithall (sp?) to come back.

I believe SEG will be accorded this status at least until the end of CY 98. At that opint it may be seen as faltering and losing out. If a co like QNTM mad a major acquis. or moved significantly into new pdt areas, then SEG may be threatened earlier.

As a result of my underlying views, I still see SEG at high 20s to low 30s in May time frame.

Your thoughts?

Dear Stock bull: thank you for your well thought out and reasoned comments. Since I am in at 39, they are not especially what I had hoped for. One of my concerns is current management. Many say they are great but from my viewpoint I note that they have failed to make any earnings target since I have owned this stock. I have always heard their products are good and I like to own stock in what I believe are excellent product companies (ex. SUNW) so I was glad to see you seem to feel the same. JDN

Thanks for your response to my post, and to the posts of Addi and others. I like your approach. I, too, think this one will drift down to the teens. I further subscribe to the view that private individual investors who carefully follow companies and have a "good feel" for what is happening/going on in a company are the ones who will be there to buy (or sell) when the "powers that be" decide to move a stock. There are no substitutes for knowledge and experience. They will trump "hype" any time.

Now, if we can only pull together the estimates, analyze them, and put a realistic number on the table for '98 and '99, we may just be there when the time comes to buy....and make some upside money. I'll be checking for estimates, and will be looking back to this thread for same, as well. With all good wishes.
