Ed,

<<I also noticed this and was thrilled that ANCOR was apparently going to ride both these horses. Now if a Cisco or 3Coms take notice of the benefits of FC maybe ANCR can get this side of the business soaring.Probably no easy task as these guys seem bent on Ethernet. If their is a competitive advantage to FC in certain areas can they ignore FC forever?>>

The big networkers really haven't made much noise in the storage area, but I think that may change with Fibre Channel storage and Storage Area Networks. FC adds a new dimension, distance, that makes storage look more like a network. That should be of interest to the networkers, especially long-term.

If the storage side of Fibre Channel takes off the way I think it will, I don't think that the big boys can afford to ignore it. Some of the numbers that are being thrown out for the Fibre Channel market in 1998 are phenomenal. (I've heard numbers between 1 and 6 BILLION for adapters, and as high as 1 BILLION for switches.) I don't necessarily believe those numbers are accurate, but they do show that there is a lot of optimism surrounding Fibre Channel.
