You may be right that it could have gradually dwindled off had the authorities done nothing. But just when it looked like they might be losing interest the police cracked down with violence and that served to galvanize the resolve of the protestors and garner support for them from the public.

The unfortunate thing for you and people like you who don't support them is that they have been successful. Tens of thousands of people have moved their money out of banks and in to credit unions. Banks have changed policies because of the protests. People and the media are now talking about the issues. It is an example of American ideals being exercised. The right to free speech and peaceable assembly are not dead in this country and that is a good thing.

The police cracked down because the "protest" (or temper tantrum..whatever you want to call it) escalated and got out of hand. The Oakland chapter of the Tantrum on Wall Street got violent and it opened the eyes in the rest of the country. If you think that the public supports OWS, I think you are mistaken. And the definition of success is in question. I don't think that the successes you list are the real goal. I believe that the goal is about votes. It is about the left's strategy of encouraging class warfare.

I love the idea of people moving their money out of the big national banks and putting it in local banks and credit unions. That's the kind of protest I like. That's the free market at work. If banks do stuff that piss you off, don't use their services. Bravo!!! But crapping on cop cars and denying others the right to live their lives isn't the right way to garner widespread support.

And if the occupiers really wanted to protest something, they would protest the politicians (dems and reps alike) who facilitated the actions by the banks and gave the bailouts. The banks could not have pulled this off on their own. The financial institutions bought the politicians who put in the regulations that blocked out competition and allowed them (the banks) to fleece the people. Often, the actions by the banks were a direct result of mandates or encouragement by the government. Success will come when the people look at who the banks gave money to and threw their votes in favor of the financial institutions and subsequently toss those politicians out of office.

Will you join me in the campaign theme for 2012 of "if they received money from the banks, they don't deserve to be in office. Toss the bums out!"
