Chinese contractors back to Canada to construct pipeline to the West. Same as they did for CPR. Mr. Hu may go for fast construction and long term commitment to buy tarsands oil.

Similar deal as Angola does: Get Chinese labor and materials to be paid with oil exports.

Oil is at the crux of the Sino-Angolan relationship and a main driver of China’s expanding relations with south-central African country. Major aspects of relations between the two countries are China’s loans in exchange for oil as well as involvement in Angolan infrastructure.

The Canadian Pacific Railway (1881-1885)
In 1881, construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) began. This railway was to connect Canada from the east coast to the west coast, thus linking Canadians together and fulfilling the dream of the Confederation. 15,000 Chinese were brought over from China by CPR contractors to work on the railroad because they were considered cheap labour. By hiring the Chinese, the CPR contractors ended up saving $3.5 million. That amount could have bought nearly half of Alaska (U.S. bought Alaska for $ 7.2 million from Russia in 1867)!
