The same could be said about a number of former Microsofties.. Not the Paul Allens of the world, but the numerous men and women who made millions in stock options due merely to the fortuitous circumstance of being in the right place at the right time and having a skill set that Microsoft needed. I've dealt with some of them - retired with millions and confused good fortune with business skill. One guy I know of blew all his money on a failing boat business. Another thought a gun shop and shooting range was a great business model. They lost it all.

I worked with a woman for a time who coined a saying I loved: "But for landing at Microsoft, these folks would be dishing up Slurpees at the 7-11."

A lot of these players make unbelievably bad businessmen.

Mark Brunell, a 15 year veteran QB, made over 50 million dollars during his career. It was all lost in incredibly bad business ventures.
