I'd say it ended up a perfect greed storm of various causes. Resulting in major consequences some "unintended" and "unseen" until it hit the fan. In some cases it was political.

I agree. Real estate has taken some spectacular jumps in my lifetime, but never with this type of hangover. The difference I think was the enablers; the banks that let everyone join the party. That wouldn't have happened a generation ago. And deregulation probably allowed that to happen.

Still can't just blame the casino for gambling; that's us regular folks standing at the tables rolling the dice.
