The rally today ended with us up about 80 to 83% to 15% down on volume that was far from impressive. The bottom today in my opinion was not anything more than an oversold bounce that could lead to further selling before earnings begin to be anticipated in January.

As far as that S&P 500 chart goes the bottom line for me is that it uses the same methodology throughout every point along the graph. That is apples to apples. It tells me the market could get cheaper before we ultimately bottom.

If we ever hit a P/E ratio of 6-8 on that chart again I believe I would have to bet the farm on a such a good bottom forming that it could lead to the kind of advance we saw in the 80's and 90's.

In other words I might become a real long term investor again.
