Chinese solar companies are gaining global market share, because they are the lowest-cost manufacturers. Government support is necessary, but not sufficient, for success. If German solar companies like Q-cells had manufacturing costs as low as Trina's, they would be able to compete. First Solar has shown, non-Chinese companies can be successful, if they have low enough manufacturing costs.
